Briefing about the institution

El Festival Panafricano de Cine y Televisión de Uagadugú (FESPACO) es uno de los mayores festivales de cine africanos.

Creado en 1969 por un grupo de cinéfilos, FESPACO tiene lugar cada dos años en Uagadugú, la capital de Burkina Faso. Aparte de la organización del festival en sí, la institución pública responsable de FESPACO también tiene la función de organizar proyecciones sin ánimo de lucro en zonas rurales en colaboración con ONG, asociaciones, escuelas y otras instituciones públicas y privadas; promover el cine africano en festivales internacionales y organizar diversos eventos en torno al cine.

Los objetivos del festival pueden resumirse en:

  • promover la difusión de todas las obras del cine africano
  • promover el contacto e intercambios entre profesionales del cine y del audiovisual
  • contribuir al crecimiento, desarrollo y preservación del cine africano como medio de expresión, educación y conciencia.
