El Instituto de Investigación de Okavango (ORI) de la Universidad de Botsuana se dedica al estudio de los humedales y las zonas áridas adyacentes. La necesidad de mayor información científica acerca del ecosistema delta del Okavango llevó al Gobierno de Botsuana a fundar el ORI bajo los auspicios de la Universidad de Botsuana en 1994. El objetivo de ORI es ser un instituto pionero en la investigación de humedales y zonas áridas adyacentes en África y en el mundo para el 2023 y años posteriores. Su misión es llevar a cabo una investigación comprometida y ofrecer formación y servicios sobre los ecosistemas de humedales y zonas áridas adyacentes.

El Botswana Institute for Development Policy Analysis (BIDPA) juega un papel importante en el panorama de la formulación de políticas nacionales. Su misión se define por los siguientes cinco elementos: investigación económica y análisis de políticas; creación de capacidad institucional; formación profesional; creación de redes y educación pública.
