Titirimundi 2011. Teatro de títeres y marionetas
The Segovia International Giant Puppet Theatre Festival, TITIRIMUNDI, was founded 25 years ago with the objective of favouring the preservation, knowledge and dissemination of giant puppet theatre as a shared cultural heritage.
This 25th edition of Titirimundi will take place from the 12th to the 16th of May 2011, with a programme that includes 37 companies from 14 countries that will provide approximately 260 performances.
Casa África will provide the African portion to this meeting with the Les Grandes Personnes d’Afrique company, a group of artists established in 1998 with the idea of creating and bringing to the streets a popular arts and crafts practice: giant marionettes. Headquartered in Boromo (Burkina Faso), this company brings together thirty people that include marionette artists, body artists, sculptors, painters, musicians, dancers and actors.
The region they are from has been traditionally wealthy in the world of popular arts. The giant marionettes that Les Grandes Personnes d’Afrique include in their passacaglias bring a new visual perspective to the city and are manufactured with local and recycled materials.
The complete Titirimundi programme can be downloaded here, and the giant marionettes will be present in the parades of the 13th and the 14th at 20:30.
