Talk: Caddy Adzuba - Isabel Muñoz

As part of the exhibition Women of the Congo, which Casa África is currently hosting at its headquarters, the organisation is holding this conference with one of the exhibition’s photographers, Isabel Muñoz, and the Congolese journalist Caddy Adzuba, who has been key to the completion of these photos. Without her help, Muñoz and Casajús would not have been able to complete their work so successfully.

Caddy Adzuba won the Prince of Asturias Award for Concord in 2014 and, among other awards, also received the Julio Anguita Parrado International Prize for Journalism in 2009. She undertakes dangerous work and is deeply committed to the values of peace and the defence of human rights, mainly of Congolese women who have been victims of the atrocities of war.

She graduated in Law from the Official University of Bukavu, her city of birth. She is a journalist for Radio Okapi, the radio station of the UN Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUC), which broadcasts throughout that country. For this work and for her humanitarian activities, she lives under permanent threat, which doesn’t stop her fighting every day for what she believes in.

Isabel Muñoz is a Catalan photographer who lives in Madrid. Her innate sensitivity is conveyed through the camera lens. She has travelled around the world capturing images that bring with them much more than just a printed photograph. Dances, bodies, skins of all colours, from Buenos Aires to Cairo, from Istanbul to Seville via the Democratic Republic of Congo, where she portrayed the women that we now know through the exhibition held at Casa África ... women who want to no longer be victims and who get up every day to fight for the dignified life which the horrors of war tried to take away from them.

Adzuba-Muñoz, Muñoz-Adzuba, women who are as strong as they are sensitive, will hold a talk at Casa África which everyone is invited to attend.
