In order to diversify tourism and strengthen competitive positions, the Ministry of Tourism, Investment and Business Development of Cape Verde promotes this event to be held from 7th to 9th May on the Cape Verde island of San Vicente with the aim of promoting the destinations of S . Vincent, St. Antao and St. Nicolau.
Mindelo Meeting Point seeks to bring together those responsible for the tourism industry worldwide to show them the official launch of the destination of 'Northern Region of Cape Verde'. Tour operators and investors can get to know the potential of the region, existing projects for the sector and opportunities to develop new projects as well as the possibility of making contacts.
Currently, the global tourism industry represents about 9% of GDP worldwide and accounts for 6% of total exports. In 2013, globally, this industry generated 1.4 trillion U.S $. Therefore, the contribution and importance of tourism for economic and social development of a country is undeniable and Cape Verde knows this since in 2014 tourism accounted for 20% of its GDP and 44% of exports.
Casa África's Director General, Luis Padrón, has been invited to participate in this meeting and shall be accompanied by a Spanish delegation which will be composed of: Luis de la Fuente, Director General of Cofides; Juan Cárdenes, Consul of Cape Verde in Las Palmas; Agustín Manrique de Lara, President of the Confederation of Businessmen of Gran Canaria; José Carlos Francisco, President of the Confederation of Businessmen of Santa Cruz de Tenerife; Juan Alberto Ramsden, Coordinator General of Binter; Raúl Zapico, Manager of Binter Cape Verde; Rafael Gallego Nadal, President Of the Spanish Confederation of Travel Agencies; Mario Rodríguez, President of Clínicas San Roque; Sebastián Suárez, Lawyer of Clínicas San Roque and Óscar Guerra Rodríguez, Administrator of Clínica San Roque.
Luis Padron took part in the opening ceremony and delivered a speech on the importance of economic diplomacy.
