La Mediateca de Casa África amplía su espacio
Casa África's Media Library is a documentary and multimedia centre specialising in African studies, with special emphasis on sub-Saharan Africa.
The Media Library is also a resource centre for research and its mission is to facilitate access and dissemination of information and engage in processes of creation of knowledge, so it is open to anyone who wants to learn more about the neighbouring continent, now with more physical consultation space available.
Besides the physical media library and in order to bridge the geographical distances, a while ago Casa África also started its multimedia portal Kuwamba, trying to put on line as many resources as possible and by always respecting copyright but trying to facilitate access to our collection for researchers from anywhere in the world.
But this time, the action in question is Casa África's physical media library, which expands the space vailable to the public and wants to present it to its users as part of a series of activities organised for 2nd February 2015 and that will follow the following programme:
- Casa África's general director, Luis Padron, will greet students and teachers of the Diploma of African Studies at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria at 7 p.m.. This will be in Casa África's Nelson Mandela Auditorium and where, besides the welcoming ceremony, there will be a presentation from Casa África, explaining its main activities, showing a video presentation of the institution, emphasizing the Media Library and its new spaces.
- Then there will be the award ceremony for the outstanding readers of the Media Library in 2014 and that has been divided into three categories:
- Best reader in Spanish
- Best foreign language reader
- Best children's reader
- Finally the presentation of the eBook Purorrelato will take place, the publication that contains the 50 short stories selected from those received in the last edition of this Casa África competition. Along with the short story winners, the publication also has texts from guest signatures for publication such as Sami Tchak, Vamba Sherif, Maria Jesus Alvarado or Angeles Jurado. For the second edition of this contest, 374 texts from seventeen countries were received, written in French, Portuguese and Spanish. The objective of this competition is to promote literary creation to encourage us to feel and think about Africa and show its different realities, always from the perspective of bringing us nearer to the continent and far away from stereotypes and clichés . The publication now presented includes the 50 texts selected by the jury.
