IV Jornadas de la Mujer Portuaria y Marítima Africana y Española
Aware of the important role women play particularly on the African continent, Casa África is back another year to lend their support to the Port Foundation of Las Palmas in its efforts of help and support that was set up in 2007 and which undertakes the important work of training for management positions in the various ports of the Western and Central Coast of Africa.
In these ports there is an Association of Port Network of Professional Women of West and Central Africa, made up by women who are middle and senior management in the port authorities of their respective countries and whose objective is to achieve improvements in all areas of their profession.
Under these objectives of the Port Foundation of Las Palmas to carry out actions aimed at professionalisation, momentum and encouraging the role of African women in the port area, ties of cooperation and collaboration have been established for over 5 years with the Association of Professional Women of the Port and Maritime Sector of the West and Central Africa. These actions have been reflected in the realisation of 2 seminars for Port Management and one for Port Logistics and providing customised training, design of its website and holding for the first time the first African and Spanish Port and Maritime Women Conference, held in Casablanca on 8th March 2010 and which was attended by over 200 representatives of African and Spanish Ports. The second edition of this event took place in 2011 in Dakar and third last year 2014 in Las Palmas.
Following this line of cooperation and new challenges for the promotion and equality of African women and aware of the success of previous conferences, this led to the fourth Conference on African and Spanish Port and Maritime Women in 2015, to be held on 23rd to 26th March 2015 between the Port Authority of Las Palmas of Gran Canaria and Casa África, who will host most of the events.
During the four days of meetings between African and Spanish women of the port and maritime world, a new training cycle and different activities will take place to strengthen ties and partnerships that are mutually beneficial. Authorities and other personalities of the sector will take part and whilst it is conducted there will be different lectures by women in high positions and responsibilities of different sectors, both Spanish and African, including Judith Thimke, Director of the maritime transport division of PMA or Yvonne Adanlete Lawson, General Secretary of the Port Network of Professional Women of West and Central Africa.
On 24th March the president of the Fundación Mujeres Por África, Ms. María Teresa Fernández de la Vega will take part in the conferences, and her visit will be used to sign a cooperation agreement between Casa África and the Fundación Mujeres Por África.
