IV Feira do Livro de Maputo

Having been interrupted for two years, the Maputo Book Fair returns this year more open than ever to the participation of international writers. The difference with previous years is that for this 2015 the Maputo International Fair will take place in the Municipal Council.

This event aims to celebrate Mozambican literature by promoting debates, educational activities and poetry readings with various national and foreign writers. On the other hand, it aims to encourage the exchange between writers to promote and disseminate Mozambican literature with its complexity, variety and different forms of action linked to other artistic areas.

Casa África again collaborates with the Book Fair of Maputo, in partnership with the Spanish Embassy in Mozambique, sending books from its collections so that they can be at the stand the Embassy will have at the fair. This meeting with words will take place from the 7th to 10th May 2015 and after the fair has been held, the publications sent by Casa África will be donated to universities and Public Libraries of Mozambique as deemed appropriate by the Spanish Embassy in the country.

This initiative comes in search of two main objectives:

  1. On the one hand, the development of programmes and cultural events that advocate the easy access of art and culture, improving the offer of renowned annual events that will place Maputo as a leading city in culture and will help to further develop its promising cultural industry
  2. On the other hand, to promote the initiation and access to reading and boost the book industry, consumption and sales.

The Spanish Embassy hopes to, in addition to supporting the growth of the event and collaborating in the accessibility of books, have available in its stand the best of literature and books produced in Spain. It is a great opportunity to disseminate and promote Spanish culture and language, and in the context of Maputo, favouring the promotion of African literature written in Spanish as well as Spanish literatures and studies devoted to Africa.
