III Jornadas de la Mujer Portuaria y Marítima Africana y Española
Aware of the important role women play particularly on the African continent, Casa África is back another year to lend their support to the Las Palmas Ports Foundation(FPLP) in their efforts of help and support what was set up in 2007 and which undertakes the important work of training for management positions in the various ports of the Western and Central Coast of Africa.
Under these objectives, FPLP has carried out actions aimed at professionalization, momentum and encouraging the role of African women in the port area, which for more than 5 years has established close ties of cooperation and collaboration with the Association of Professional Women of the Port and Maritime Sector of the Western and Central Coast of Africa. These actions have been reflected, among other actions, in undertaking the first two Conferences on African and Spanish Port and Maritime Women, the first held in Casablanca on 8th March 2010 and which was attended by over 200 representatives of African and Spanish ports and the second edition of this event which took place in Dakar in 2011.
Following this line of cooperation and new challenges for the promotion and equality of African women and aware of the success of previous conferences, led to the third Conference on African and Spanish Port and Maritime Women this year, to be held on 31st March to 4th April 2014 between the Port Authority of Las Palmas of Gran Canaria and Casa África, who will host most of the events.
During the five days of meetings between African and Spanish women of the port and maritime world, there will be a new training cycle and different activities to strengthen ties and partnerships that are mutually beneficial. Authorities and other people in the sector will be involved during its development and various lectures will given by women who hold top positions and responsibilities in different sectors, both in Spain and Africa. Specifically, on 1st April, the president of the Women's Foundation For Africa, Ms. Maria Teresa Fernandez de la Vega will participate in the conferences by signing an agreement between the two organizations. There will also be a visit to the participating institutions, where the operation of these institutions will be made known together with first-hand experiences of the staff that carry out their work there.
