I Congreso Atlántico Tricontinental de Mediación
The public universities of the Canary Islands (the University of La Laguna and the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria), together with GEMME (European Group of Magistrates for Mediation - Spanish Section), are launching this initiative to boost the role played by the Canary Islands in the world of Mediation as a culture of peace and democratic coexistence.
This First Atlantic Tricontinental Mediation Congress was launched to be an academic, scientific, multidisciplinary, professional focal point for presentation and discussion on conflict management and mediation in different fields and applications, including issues related to the Culture of Peace. In addition, it is intended to be part of an ongoing process and has been started as a biannual celebration, taking place alternately in each Canary Islands Public University.
Casa África is collaborating with the universities of the Canary Islands by contributing the participation of Doctor of Law and Moroccan expert Tarik Zouhair to this Congress, in the panel discussion scheduled for 25 November. The Casa África manager, Jose Luis Márquez, will participate as moderator at this session.
Due to its geographical location, the Canary Islands is a strategic axis and bridge between three continents. The Tricontinental Atlantic Mediation Congress aims to contribute to the promotion of the Culture of Peace by publicising the international experiences which - especially in Europe, Africa and America - are being implemented and disseminated by the Institution of Mediation.
The Congress programme will provide people involved in mediation with a scientific and professional meeting place where they can learn about the state of the social progression of mediation. It will also provide an opportunity for those with expertise and experience in mediation to learn about the advances and new methodological and technical proposals that will contribute to improving and growing mediation efforts and conflict management.
Mediation has been introduced in recent years as an alternative or complementary procedure and often as the most suitable mechanism for solving conflict in different spheres. It is attracting growing social, academic and professional interest and is being implemented in various contexts: legal, family, criminal, educational, social and community as well as in organisations, companies and administrative litigation.
This first congress will be held at the Faculty of Economics, Business and Tourism at the Guajara Campus, Camino de la Hornera, s/n. 38071, San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Santa Cruz de Tenerife
