Homenaje a Léopold Sedar Senghor
The Senegalese Serer Association is organising a tribute to Léopold Sedar Senghor with different activities that will take place at Casa África's headquarters and at the Edificio Miller on 7th and 8th October 2011.
A poet, essayist and politician -president of Senegal between 1960 and 1980-, Léopold Sédar Senghor is considered to be one of the most important intellectuals of the 20th century. He was the first African to have a seat at the French Academy and founded the Senegalese Democratic Bloc political party.
Casa África's media library has a special collection on this author's work, these are interviews and documentaries that can be requested either on loan or be consulted at the headquarters.
The planned programme for the tribute to this important African figure is as follows:
Friday 7th October at Casa África's headquarters
16:30h Opening of the seminars
17:00h Conference on the life and work of Senghor carried out by Amadou Ndoye, professor of the Faculty of Arts for the University of Cheikh Anta Diop in Dakar. After the conference there will be a debate on it.
Saturday 8th October at the Edificio Miller (Parque de Santa Catalina, Las Palmas of Gran Canaria)
10:00h Presentation of the exhibition 'Gueule du lion, sourire de sage' (Mouth of the lion, smile of a sage) by Jean Rene Bourel. This exhibition of paintings will be held at Casa África's headquarters on Friday during the conference

21:30h Kora Concert carried out by Bakary Mbodian
22:00h Poetry reading by Senghor
22:45h Sengalese music concert with the John Naya Band
