Festival Boreal
From 14 to 17 September 2016, the municipality of Los Silos in the historic centre of Tenerife will host the Boreal International Festival, an unmissable annual encounter with the culture and the environment of the Canary Islands. Under the slogan “An Ocean of Cultures”, this is an invitation to journey through the planet’s cultures. This year, Boreal has invited Mozambique as a guest country, but that won’t be the only African touch at the festival, because artists from countries including Cape Verde, Angola and Guinea Bissau have already confirmed their participation.
Through activities running in parallel with the concerts, designed for all ages and with free access, Boreal 2016 will combine live music and other arts, as well as a craft fair, ecomarket, workshops, tours, gastromarket, kids’ zone, Boreal Kids, BiblioBoreal, documentary films, exhibitions, recycling, parades, etc. This year, the Festival returns with more activities and new areas, including a camping zone.
Casa África is collaborating with this important initiative through three specific actions:
- the loan of two exhibitions:
- Mujeres que rompieron el silencio (Women who broke the silence), by Concha Casajús: 20 photographs featuring women of the Democratic Republic of Congo [+ info]
- Graffrica. Arte Urbano Africano (African Urban Art): 10 photographic panels with a small sample of the art that fills the streets of a continent full of young people with a lot to say [+ info]
- the donation of publications belonging to our collections of literature, essays and exhibition catalogues that will be available for consultation by visitors during the Festival and later will become part of the collection of the Public Library of Los Silos.
