FCAT 2016

The FCAT African Film Festival returns in 2016 with a cross-border event running in both Tarifa and Tangiers. It will run from 26 May to 4 June and entries are invited until 31 March.

This thirteenth FCAT, which will be held simultaneously this year in Tarifa and Tangiers, will have two competitive sections, one for feature films (fiction and documentary) and the other for short films.

Those interested in participating can consult the entry criteria and see the registration form here.

After taking place in Cordoba four times, the festival is beginning a new era with a proposal which will join the two sides of the Strait of Gibraltar: Tarifa and Tangiers.

With Tarifa as a backdrop, FCAT regains its original space and reinforces the value of the Strait as a stage for intercultural dialogue and cross-border exchange, involving two cities which share a past, present and future.

As one of the most important new elements in this new festival format, the FCAT will include a monograph in tribute to the city of Tangiers, in collaboration with the Cinémathèque de Tanger.

In addition, it will have a special programme of outdoor screenings which will have particular emphasis on titles focusing on themes or locations related to the Strait of Gibraltar.

And finally, a new section will be opened, in collaboration with the Department of Social Anthropology at the University of Seville, which will be devoted to ethnographic film.

In addition, the FCAT will open a job centre and provide the festival volunteers with training for jobs related to new technologies.

In the same spirit, a radio training workshop will be held for students from Tarifa and Tangiers, with the aim of launching an online radio station which will broadcast live throughout the festival.

To complete the new FCAT programme, the festival management will meet in the coming weeks with business people from Tarifa, the parent-teachers association and the town’s cultural organisations to study proposals coming from all these areas.
