Exposición fotográfica "Nómadas"
Nómadas began as a “photo film” created by the publicist Jorge Martínez on the initiative of the NGO Rescate, with the support of Cooperación Española (Spanish Cooperation), to raise awareness about the last nomadic communities of the Sahel and to tell their story.
To carry out this project, which was broadcast on Cadena SER, Jorge Martínez worked with the journalist Martín Caparrós and the photographer Samuel Aranda, who accompanied him on an immersive journey into the life of these communities. The exhibition, which will be launched at Casa África on 1 February 2018, features a selection of the photographs which Samuel Aranda took for the project.
Jorge Martínez, director and curator of Nómadas, defines this project as “a strange mixture between cinema and journalism, literature and photography, art and essay, a project halfway between sound story and photographic report”. Because Nómadas is a “photo film” in which the photographs of Samuel Aranda (winner of the 2011 World Press Photo award) and the story of Martín Caparrós (a journalist and writer who has published more than thirty books) dialogue to bear witness to a way of life which, despite being totally alien to us and timeless, is described in a way that asserts its contemporary relevance.
Linked with this exhibition, Jorge Martínez will join us at a press conference and at a conference with the rest of the project’s participants. This is scheduled to take place on 1 February in Casa África’s Nelson Mandela auditorium.
As with all our activities, access to the exhibition is free. You can visit from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. During the period of the exhibition, Casa África will be closed for the following holidays: 13 February, 29 and 30 March, 1 May. Access to the conference is free and open to all. Limited capacity.
