EuroPhotoBrik

PhotoBrik (PHBK) is a photographic solidarity initiative where various activities are undertaken, among which we should mention conferences with renowned photographers. They have already been carried out in places like the Atlantic Centre of Modern Art, through the EnfocArte project of the Popular University of Las Palmas and the Department of Education and Cultural Action of CAAM and now it is Casa África's turn.

Those attending the talks collaborate by donating milk cartons that are then distributed by the Food Bank of Las Palmas to the neediest families. The first PHBK cycle concluded with the participation of 800 people and 2000 cartons of milk were collected, an amount that we hope to exceed in this second cycle.

EUROPHBK arises from the need to create synergies and expand, with the sole intention of joining forces and creating empathy for a common cause, which is solidarity, this is understood, not from a local context, but in this case from a European framework, bringing us closer through the image and reflection to our neighbouring continent, Africa.

PHBK's main objective is to raise awareness of the needs of others through culture, solidarity being one of the main objectives in its policy.

Those interested in participating in this initiative may do so on the 13th and 17th December 2013 by attending debates to be held at Casa África following the programme shown below:

13th December

  • 7:00 p.m. Panel discussion: Is there a united Europe?
  • 8:30 p.m. Opening of the exhibition Tbabu by Alfonso Elvira and Jesus Hermana with DJ sessions by Mr. Cangrejo (a taste of jazz)

17th December

  • 7:00p.m. Conference by Alfonso Elvira and Jesús Hermana
  • 8:00 p.m. Panel discussion: Can we speak of a deconstruction of the Africa's imaginary colonial era?
