El mejor cine africano llega a Córdoba

Throughout the month of December, the sessions titled 'Nadhari, una mirada africana' (Nadhari, an African View) will give residents of Córdoba the opportunity to become more familiar with the neighbouring continent via conferences, debates, and of course, many films at the hand of Cinenómada, the largest collection of African films with Spanish subtitles in the world, which will round out the programme with titles of the best of African cinema.

Casa África sponsors Cinenómada because it has the same objective as Al-Tarab of making African cinema visible to as many Spanish audiences as possible and of brining Africa closer to Spain.

Cinenómada makes available to various entities a large selection of films from past editions of the FCAT, subtitled in Spanish, which is to date the only offering of this dimension and genre that exists in Spain and that guarantees African producers an income, which although modest, is often the only one they receive.

It targets associations, municipalities, regional governments, universities, cultural centres, film libraries, museums and any type of organisation or institution that is interested in promoting African cinema. Cinenómada distributes films throughout the year that would otherwise remain only in specialised festivals.

The ASPA association, which is based in Córdoba, has organised events throughout the month of December which are aimed at increasing awareness and disseminating a more realistic vision of Africa in Spain.

With this in mind, an African film season has been scheduled for December 2nd, 9th, 16th and 21st at 7:00 pm in the Córdoba Centro Cívico Norte. The film showings are free and will include:

December 2nd: Bamako, by Abderrahmane Sissako. December 9th: Thomas Sankara, l'homme intègre, by Robin Shuffield. This documentary describes the four years when Thomas Sankara was in power (he was the president of Burkina Faso between 1983 and 1987).
December 16th: Conakry Kas, by Mantia Diawara.
December 21st: Short film showings:
