Congreso MACSA. Acontecimientos y Tendencias en la Protección del Transporte Marítimo y del Medioambiente Marino

MACSA -Programme to Promote Sustainable Development in the fields of trade and maritime transport in West Africa, it  is a cross border cooperation  project with the Canary Islands - Cape Verde - Senegal whose general objective is to promote trade and maritime transport between West Africa and the Canary Islands by developing a collaborative framework and networking between institutions to make suitable policies, legislation and infrastructures to implement international safety and security protocols.

Under MACSA and as the climax of its activities, CETECIMA organises this Congress, "Events and trends in the protection of maritime transport and the marine environment", to be held on 6th and 7th May, 2015 at Casa África's Nelson Mandela Auditorium in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, which aims to exchange knowledge and experiences in the field of maritime transport and the marine environment between high-level representatives of port and maritime authorities of the Canary Islands, Spain, Senegal and Cape Verde, as well as international organisations such as the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) and that will deal with issues in environmental protection and maritime transport such as:

  • protection against piracy
  • monitoring and control of traffic
  • MARPOL agreement
  • prevention of marine pollution

The MACSA project is led by the Technological Centre of Marine Sciences -CETECIMA- and has the participation of the following partners:

  • the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) in the Canary Islands
  • the Maritime and Port Agency (MPA) in Cape Verde
  • the National Agency of Maritime Affairs (ANAM) in Senegal

In order to better develop the event, CETECIMA, together with the other partners of MACSA, has had the cooperation in organising tasks and support through the Technical Committee of the Congress of entities like the Port Authority of Las Palmas, Casa África, the Directorate General of Merchant Navy, the Port Foundation of Las Palmas and the Canary Islands Oceanic Platform (PLOCAN).
