Conferencia+Visita guiada a la exposición 'Telas de luz'

As part of the exhibition Materials of Light  which is presently held at Casa África's headquarters, will be this conference carried out by the organiser, Orlando Britto.

The Saro León Gallery exhibits its African contemporary art collection at Casa África, organised over the years and that has very significant artwork in the international art scene.

The event that is now being promoted is a combination of a Conference-Guided Visit carried out by Orlando Britto Jinorio, the exhibition's organiser and Saro León, its collector. It will take place on the 6th March 2013 at 7 p.m. as per the following programme:

  • Analysis and review of the situation of the African contemporary art context over the last two decades until now.
  • Context and development of its biennials and its artistic education.
  • Artists on the continent and artists in the diaspora
  • Contemporary art as a cultural, social and political global action territory.
  • The Canary Islands and African contemporary art: institutional and private strategies
  • Talk with Saro León on the incorporation and presence of contemporary African artists in his collection and in his gallery's programme
  • Introduction to the exhibition "Materials of Light" by the project's organiser
  • Guided visit to the exhibition with the collector and organiser

This African contemporary art exhibition will be held in Casa África's halls until the 8th March 2013, and can be visited from 10am to 6pm

Materials of light is the title given to this exhibition project from the Saro León collection that frames the work of seven contemporary  artists of African origin whose works have been undertaken in the areas of photography, embroidered materials, painting on material, video and sculpture.

Light as the basis of photography and video, light as lighting, as the capacity of a artist to generate new horizons, and in this specific case, of seven artists with a wide sense of commitment with their history and the present.

The following artists are integrated into this project:

  • Owusu Ankomah (Ghana)
  • Mama Casset (Senegal)
  • Abdoulaye Konaté and Malick Sidibé (Mali)
  • Michèle Magema (Democratic Republic of Congo)
  • Amadou Makhtar Mbaye known as Tita (Senegal)
  • Barthélémy Toguo (Cameroon)
