Compartiendo experiencias: dinamización cultural y extensión bibliotecaria
The University Library of Las Palmas organises Sharing experiencesin order to publicise the work carried out in different libraries in the Canary Islands. With this pooling of each experience, we hope to seek mutual enrichment that serves to provide a better service to users.
This first edition, dedicated to the cultural revitalization and library extension, with the participation of Casa África's media library together with other libraries.
The representation of Casa África at this meeting will be carried out by Estefanía Calcines, head of web and media area of the institution.
Her presentation, which starts at 12.15 p.m., will focus on initiatives and projects of Casa África's Media Library, a documentation centre specialising in African themes that has been developed by the Kuwamba Portal, a way to bridge the geographical boundaries by putting the maximum amount of resources on line. In this regard, Casa Africa has also developed Kuwamba Radio, an online radio that lets you enjoy African music 24 hours a day.
Casa África's archive managed by its media library has resources of films, websites, texts and special collections and activities are organised such as:
- Purorrelato, a short story Competition which in its 2014 edition received 374 texts from seventeen countries, written in French, Portuguese and Spanish.
- The Memory Project, a way to collect the experience of those who have dedicated their lives to Africa and that will be published shortly.
- Promoting knowledge of African literature
- Management of the Blog África Vive
- Preparation of weekly recommendations of Casa África's newsletter
- Annual organisation of the Library and Information Science Meeting.
Sharing experiences will take place on Wednesday, 11th February 2015 from 9 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. in the Multi-purpose Room of the Main Building of the University Library (Tafira Campus).
