Compartiendo experiencias
For the third consecutive year, the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) is organising the “Sharing experiences” workshop, which this year is entitled Hidden Collections.
The meeting will take place on Friday 17 February 2017 from 9am to 2pm in the multipurpose room of the Main Building of the ULPGC Library (Tafira Campus)
Due to the limited capacity, in order to attend the conference it is essential to register. Registration will be open from 1 to 8 February.
The event will be broadcast live on the profile of the ULPGC Library in Periscope and commented on in Twitter using the hashtag #BiblioXperiencia17.
Casa África takes part in these workshops as an institution that has placed special emphasis on recovering part of the intangible heritage of which the oral tradition in Africa forms a part, to digitalise it and make it available to researchers and those interested in this material that time threatens to destroy.
The talk, entitled “The oral narration of the IFAN collection in the Casa África Media Library” summarises the collaboration between Casa África and the Fundamental Institute of Black Africa (IFAN) which made possible the digitising of part of the archive of the researcher Lilyan Kesteloot, composed of recordings of epics and tales of West African oral storytelling made since the 1970s and which also contains interviews with leading intellectuals like Cheikh Anta Diop and Leopold Sedar Senghor.
Thanks to this collaboration, magnetic tapes which deteriorated in Senegal can now be heard through Casa África’s open portal, Kuwamba.
The full programme of the conference can be downloaded here.
