16º Festival Internacional de Teatro, Música y Danza de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
The 16th International Festival of Theatre, Music and Dance of Las Palmas of Gran Canaria, which this year is held from the 3rd July to the 4th August, opens its doors wider than ever and changes its usual venue to move to different stages in the city with seven surprising suggestions for street theatre.
As part of this festival, Casa África will provide a participatory parade on Friday 20th July from 20:00 to 21:30h in Parque Santa Catalina carried out by the Thioune Brothers. The characters that will tour around the park represent mystic African tradition which, headed up by the spirits, tour the streets encouraging people to come out of their houses and join in the celebration. Chákaba and Samán will be accompanied by a group of percussionists, dancers, fire-throwers and stilt-walkers and with a djembé rhythm will mix with those attending the event. The djeupe dance will round off the performance.
As well as this, also in Parque de Santa Catalina, Casa África will contribute with the participation of the international company Kenian Boys. This unique team, which uses an African percussion rhythm, provides a performance with a collection of skills, amongst which we must highlight somersaults, human pyramids, acrobatics with fire or very surprising balancing acts. The show will take place on Saturday 21st July and will be spread over two performances each lasting 50 minutes: the first at 19:00 and the second at 21:00.
All the performances that make up this 16th edition of the festival, except the Choir concert and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Gran Canaria, are totally free .
